FIELDS PROSPECTING

In addition to standard technologies (i.e. seismic survey)the Company applies some new ones for oil fields prospecting:

  • prediction of oil-bearing intervals with application of the "Neuroseism" artificial intelligence method;
  • collection of hydrocarbon gases escaping from the soil and assessment of hydrocarbon diffusion halation with application of Gore Sorber module;
  • low-frequency seismic sounding;
  • geological and geophysical technology for optimization of selecting well drilling site locations;
  • electromagnetic sounding (EMS);
  • software package 3D 'Stratimegic' for processing seismic survey results.

DRILLING

More than 34 new technologies were applied for drilling in 2009. Application of silicate tanks in the productive formations interval; use of G-grade cement; application of collar cementing units; and for achivement of high oil production rates - construction of horizontal wells and down-hole splitters - are all among the most effective tecchnologies in terms of the wells casing quality.

In 2009 ОАО TATNEFT drilled 17 slim hole wells (SHW) and 13 of those wells were commissioned for oil production (oil production volume amounted to 9.863 thousand tons). The average production rate reached 6.7 tons per day. The total number of SHW drilled from the beginning of the method implementation amounts to 85 slim wells.

PRODUCTION

Application of enhanced oil recovery methods is a determinative factor in oil production. Incremental oil production resulting from tertiary oil recovery enhancement methods amounted to 5.17 million tons in 2009 (accounting for 100% to the level of 2008). The share of oil produced through application of those EOR methods in 2009 accounts for 20% of the total production.

In aggregate the production resulting from application of the enhanced oil recovery methods accounted for 44.9% of the total production volume in 2009.

OPERATIONS AT EXTRA-VISCOUS OIL FIELDS

Commercial projects of developing two deposits of extra-viscous oil of Sheshminsky horizon at Mordovo-Karmalskoye and Ashalchinskoye fields are in the process of implementation. Design projects have been prepared for test operation of 19 deposits and fields.

Site arrangements for application of thermal oil production methods were performed at the deposit of Mordovo-Karmalskoye field (the process flow-sheet of pilot operations was approved by the Central Development Commission). A test site for the in-situ combustion technology using horizontal wells was defined at the Southern and South-Western areas; while the test site for application of steam treatment was found at the Northern Cupola. The production of extra-viscous oil deposit at Mordovo-Karmalskoye field amounted to 5.0 thousand tons of oil.

Production of extra-viscous oil in the pilot area of the Ashalchinskoye field amounted to 18.4 thousnad tons in 2009. Aplication of a steam cycling technology based on three pairs of horizontal wells and one horizontal well allowed producing more than 38.1 thousand tons since the beginning of the pilot operations.
