In 2010, OAO TATNEFT will complete the second stage of a comprehensive energy conservation program which has been in effect since 2000. A wide range of measures to reduce energy consumption was implemented during this period. The energy savings amounted to about 1 million 600 thousand tons of standard fuel or 18% of the total fuel and energy resources consumption. Specific power consumption for oil production was steadily declining in recent years.
As a result of implementation of the complex range of measures, such as application of hourly electricity consumption planning for the day ahead, arrangement of the activities for the optimum rate selection, the cost growth of electric power for Tatneft amounted to 14.6% during the past year, while the approved energy tariffs for industrial enterprises of the Republic of Tatarstan increased by 25%.
In connection with the annual increase of electricity tariffs the energy saving measures have now become of greater urgency. Over the past five years the share of energy in the structure of operating costs increased from 8% to 13% and subject to the further growth of tariffs it could exceed 20% by 2015.
A new 10-Year Resource Saving Program is in the process of development now and it will be launched in 2011. Unlike the previous programs targeted at saving energy only, the new program lays emphasis on saving all kinds of resources: material, labor and energy, and such an approach plays an important role today. The program identifies priorities for improving energy efficiency of OAO TATNEFT and also forms a multilevel system of indicators for analysis and monitoring of the process. Priority is given to activities, which provide for quick return and are cost effective, as well as to new developments in the area of energy conservation such as alternative sources of electricity.
A full survey of all power facilities of the Company was carried out in the past year in order to identify additional reserves for optimization of the energy costs in the energy supply system.
