Secondary Processing and Recycling of Industrial Waste Print version

The Company works continuously on decreasing technological environmental impact by gathering and recycling wastes from oil production processes.

There is the whole system for gathering, processing and using wastes as raw materials for yielding commercial products operating in the Company. The system includes:

  • processing oil sludge;
  • processing worn out tires and others rubber products;
  • processing polyethylene wastes;
  • processing used cable;
  • processing used industrial and engine oils.

Four oil sludge processing plants are located in regular intervals all over the oil production area. The plant for processing worn out automobile tires allows utilizing 1.5 thousand per year. Processing products (metal cord and liquid solvent) are used as secondary raw materials.

The line of polyethylene waste granulation allows processing all plastic wastes to return them for the basic production. 2.5 thousand tons of polyethylene wastes were processed during the years of processing lines operation.

Used cable processing line allows splitting cable into components (polyethylene, nonferrous metal cores, and metallic armor). The secondary raw materials are used for production of enameled wire, polyethylene drums, various technical products as well as consumer goods from polyethylene. The metalic armor is re-melted. More than 18 thousand km of cable have been recycled and c.6 thousand tons of copper wire and more than 3 thousand tons of secondary granulated polyethylene have been produced during the years of the cable splitting lines operation.

Special line of the Klockner Company recycles used oils. Used oils refined with Klockner technology meet technical requirements for oilfield equipment greases. The line's refining capacity is over 4.8 thousand tons of used oils per year. The yield of refined oils makes 75%.

Great attention is paid to collecting and recycling iron-and-steel wastes. Over 15 thousand tons of scrap metal were collected for recycling by divisions of OAO TATNEFT in 2009.

The total amount of production wastes decreased by 11 thousand tons in comparison with 2008 and amounted 94 thousand tons. Specific wastes production rate made 3.6 kg per one ton of produced oil in 2009 that is 10% less than in 2008.

OAO TATNEFT activities in the field of hazardous wastes handling is conducted on the basis of license No OT-43-003543(16) dated 26.06.2009 issued by Volga area department of Federal Technical Supervision Service of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources.

To ensure environmentally benign management and hadling of inductrial and consumer wastes, employees of structural divisions of OAO TATNEFT regularly pass professional certification.
