Results of Industrial Environmental Monitoring Print version

In order to minimize our negative impact on the nature we have launched a complex system of industrial environmental monitoring, which is realized in the following ways:

  • environmental test measurements;
  • impact source and environment condition databases maintenance, data processing and analysis;
  • checking compliance of the impact sources with environmental requirements;
  • environmental analysis and forecast in the regions of activity;
  • production ecological control system development for new territories of activity

In pursuit of production ecological control the following procedures are carried out on a regular basis:

  • environment impact source control (pollutant emissions, storm sewage and manufacturing waters discharge);
  • environment condition control (air, surface and underground waters, land and soil, geological environment).

Atmospheric Air Monitoring

Industrial environmental monitoring of atmospheric air in the OAO TATNEFT activity region is performed by the industrial sanitary laboratory of the Tatneftegazpererabotka Department. About 2000 analyses of chemical emission to the atmospheric air are taken annually to comply with maximum permissible emission (MPE)standards. Under the motor transport emissions control more than 1800 measurements are performed.

OAO TATNEFT keeps under control atmospheric air condition in 114 settlements within its activity zone and around 155 production facilities. Up to 9000 analyses are completed from year to year.

During the air analyses conducted in line with synoptic observations no exceeds over admissible limits were revealed.

Water Bodies Monitoring

The Company’s activity region is located in the basin of the Kama River and its tributary streams. Besides, essential reserves of fresh underground water, which are used by local population for household and drinking purposes, are concentrated here in the interval of Upper Permian deposits. It has been known that fresh surface and underground waters are a good indicator of the environment state, since they respond to the technogenic pollution of the surface and geological environment with a particular aptitude. Therefore, a network of observation points for monitoring the surface and underground water pollution has been formed in the Company’s activity territory and functioned since 1969.

Currently, the observation network consists of 1,381 sampling points. The number includes observation points for controlling surface (springs, rivers and water reservoirs) and underground waters (artesian wells, wells). Water body condition industrial ecological control is carried out by the central chemical/analytical laboratory and the peripheral lab network. Water analysis is performed by the following parameters: chloride ions, sulphate ions, total hardness, hydrocarbonates content, pH value, calcium, anion active surfactant substances, oil and oil products in dissolved and emulsified condition. Chemical laboratory analysis evidenced stable condition of the main rivers and most of springs did not exceed fixed sanitary-hygienic norms of maximum permissible concentration. Presently, continuous cutback of their concentration in underground water is observed.

Land Resources Monitoring

With the purpose of a complex evaluation of the oil production impact upon the lands state, the investigations on sanitary justification of the maximum permissible concentrations of oil in soils have been performed in OAO TATNEFT for the first time in Russia; normative values of permissible residual content of oil in the soils after reclamation works have been worked out and adopted with a limiting value of 2.9 g/kg. Monitoring of the lands state is performed on the basis of these indicators.

Chemical analyses of soil samples were carried out for technogenic pollution with oil products, anions (chlorides, sulphates, hydrocarbonates, carbonates), cations (Ca, Mg, K+Na), pH and general mineralization for the purpose of soil condition evaluation.

When checkpoint results were compared to peripheral-point results (at least 500 m away form oil producing facilities and communications) results evaluation shows localized character of soil pollution by oil products at oil well service vehicle parking lots. However, chloride permissible concentration at sampling points complied with the standards.

As a rule, large-scale cutbacks on agricultural lands allocation to oil-production are entertained. Hence, great effort is made in order to recover disturbed lands fertility, which is done through grouping of wells.
Presently OAO TATNEFT confirms a land quote of 0.23 hectares per 1 well. Overall OAO TATNEFT manufacturing sites occupy 22.7 thousand hectares of agricultural and foresty land area. The Company puts all the efforts to avoid accidental soil pollution in its activity area.

Geological Environment Monitoring

Geological environment monitoring is performed in OAO TATNEFT with respect to exogenic and endogenic processes, which are capable of affecting the oil fields operation and the engineering and geological stability of structures and utility systems.

For geological environment condition dynamics control a look-out stations network was created over the Romashkinskoye field area. The network embodies 1,050look-out stations, including network stations of the State geodesic and triangulation network and repeated precision profile leveling of daytime surface.
