The opening ceremony of the of Russian Classics match was attended by Vladislav Tretyak, President of FHR (Russian Ice Hockey Federation), leaders of hockey clubs, and legendary national hockey players. The competition was organized by the VHL (Higher Hockey League) and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, PJSC TATNEFT, the Administration of the Almetyevsk Municipal District and the Neftyanik Hockey Club.
The “Russian Classics” is one of the hockey season highlights. It was first held in Krasnoyarsk on February 17, 2012. The updated emblem of the “Russian Classics” is made in tones consonant with the flag colors of the Republic of Tatarstan with the addition of the basic elements: the national Tatar figure pattern, Tartar skullcaps, balanced pumping unit, as well as one of the city symbols - a monument to oil pioneers.
Coming out to the ice rink, the competing rival teams changed their equipment wearing retro jersey especially to fit the "Russian Classics" style. The hosts of the site performed in red with a stylized emblem, which for several years was on the “Sputnik's” undershirts: this was the name of the Almetyevsk team from 1965 to 1986.
The 3:2 score victory was gained by the hockey players of "Neftyanik" in a bright and spectacular match. The event completed with a concert of the "Disco Avariya” pop group.
